When the Washington Redskins signed wide receiver DeSean Jackson to the team in 2014, Pierre Garcon’s targets decreased dramatically. Head coach Jay Gruden, who was also new to the team in 2014, claims he wants to get Garcon more heavily involved in the offense this season.

When asked about both Garcon and Jackson, Gruden seemed particularly impressed with the former.

“I’m impressed, especially with Pierre,” Gruden said, via the Washington Post. “Pierre has been here every day, working his tail off, doing a great job.”

That last sentence could be seen as a knock on Jackson, who bypassed voluntary minicamp to attend a NBA Playoff game earlier this offseason.

As it relates to Garcon, the Redskins would be wise to get him more involved. He led the NFL with 113 receptions on 181 targets in 2013 before seeing those numbers drop to 68 and 105 respectively this past season.

Garcon and Jackson could be one of the best receiving tandems in the NFL. Unfortunately, their livelihood depends on whether Robert Griffin III can actually get them the ball on a consistent basis.

We’ll have to wait just a few short months to see if Gruden’s big plans for Garcon play out.
