DeMarco Murray 'limited' in practice, status for Sunday in doubt

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly provided an update on DeMarco Murray before Wednesday morning’s practice session, but even though the running back took part in activities Tuesday, his status for Sunday’s game against the Washington Redskins remains in doubt.

“DeMarco made it through (Tuesday),” Kelly said, via NJ.com. “He was limited. So we’ll see how he does (Wednesday).”

Murray, dealing with an injured hamstring, missed the Eagles’ first win of the season last Sunday, a 24-17 triumph over the New York Jets. But his career in Philly couldn’t have gotten off to a more inauspicious start in his first two games. Murray has carried the ball 21 times so far this season for a woeful 11 yards — a 0.5 yard/rush average — a stat line that included an awful 13-rush, 2-yard rushing performance in a Week 2 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

Murray has caught nine balls out of the backfield for 64 yards, but the Eagles clearly expected substantially more productivity after signing the running back to a 5-year, $42 million contract in the offseason … although the responsibility for his dreadful output doesn’t rest entirely on Murray’s shoulders, as the offensive line has been atrocious for significant stretches in the team’s 1-2 start.

But the Eagles seemed to make inroads at getting the offense — at least the running game — back on track in the team’s victory over the Jets, spearheaded by Ryan Mathews’ workhorse-like 29-carry, 112-yard game.

The hope in Philadelphia must be that once Murray is back 100 percent, he should be more than capable of putting up those kind of numbers, if not far better. Whether that occurs this coming Sunday, however, remains to be seen.
