Colin Kaepernick on 49ers' offseason: 'I think the changes are for the good'

To say that the San Francisco 49ers had a pretty tumultuous offseason would be an understatement.

They lost head coach Jim Harbaugh to the Michigan Wolverines only to replace him with a guy in Jim Tomsula who has zero experience as even a coordinator in the NFL.

The team also saw the likes of Patrick Willis, Chris Borland, Justin Smith and Anthony Davis announce their retirements. In addition to its losses in free agency, this means that San Francisco will be heading into the 2015 season with 10 new starters from a season ago.

While most of the focus surrounding the 49ers has been on these myriad losses and the potential that the team will take a step back in 2015, there seems to be a renewed sense of optimism within the organization.

“Very excited for the season. A lot of new faces in the locker room and a lot of new coaches. I think the changes are for the good,” embattled quarterback Colin Kaepernick said about the team’s outlook, via the Nevada Appeal. “I feel very confident in our team. I feel people are writing us off, but for us, that’s all right.”

It’s good to see the much-maligned quarterback express confidence in his team, but it’s not like he could come out publicly and show displeasure regarding the moves.

Kaepernick was close to Harbaugh prior to the drama that took place between his former head coach and current organization last season. While Kaepernick has publicly shown confidence in the new coaching staff, it doesn’t take a genius to realize he wasn’t too happy about Harbaugh’s departure.

As it relates to San Francisco’s outlook in 2015, the team surely is being overlooked. Despite its losses over the offseason the 49ers are still extremely talented. A new offensive scheme and young talent on both sides of the ball could lead to a surprising season in San Francisco.

Then again, it might prove to be too difficult to overcome all the losses Kaepernick and company have seen in recent months.

Only time will tell.
