Baltimore Ravens release five-time Pro Bowler Elvis Dumervil

The Baltimore Ravens landed Elvis Dumervil four years ago when the Denver Broncos faxed in his contract minutes after the 4 p.m. deadline. Now, the Ravens are parting ways with the veteran pass rusher.

After former Ravens receiver Steve Smith reported the news, Dumervil confirmed his release on Twitter with a message to fans and the organization.

Dumervil missed eight games due to a foot injury last season, limiting him to three sacks in eight games. His numbers have fallen off each of the past two years following his 17-sack season in 2014.

He was set to count $8.4 million against the cap this season, but the Ravens will save $6 million by releasing him. It was the last year of his five-year deal.

For the Ravens, who had just $10.2 million in cap room before the move, it gives them a bit more to spend on free agents.
