Cardinals fortify secondary by signing CB White, S Swearinger

With starting cornerback Jerraud Powers dealing with a calf strain, the Arizona Cardinals signed cornerback Corey White on Tuesday.

White appeared in seven games with the Dallas Cowboys this season, making six tackles. A fifth-round draft pick in 2012, White spent the previous three seasons with the New Orleans Saints, recording four interceptions while starting 19 of 41 games.

The Cardinals also signed safety D.J. Swearinger, a second-round pick in 2013, to their practice squad Tuesday. Swearinger played in seven games with Tampa Bay earlier this season and appeared in all 32 games over two seasons with the Houston Texans in 2013-14.

If Powers is unable to play in Sunday's game at St. Louis, Justin Bethel will get the start at cornerback. Bethel, who has appeared in every game with Arizona over the past three-plus seasons, had his first career interception in Week 3, returning it for a touchdown.
