1st round picks Goff, Garnett inactive for Rams-49ers opener

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) First-round picks Jared Goff and Joshua Garnett are both inactive for the season opener between the Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers.

Goff, the No. 1 overall pick, is the third quarterback for the Rams and did not dress for his first game as a pro. The other Rams inactives for the game are receivers Pharoh Cooper and Nelson Spruce; cornerbacks E.J. Gaines and Steve Williams; tackle Pace Murphy and defensive end Matt Longacre.

Garnett, the 28th pick, did not dress for the 49ers with Andrew Tiller starting at right guard in place of Anthony Davis, who reportedly considered retiring this weekend.

Defensive lineman Glenn Dorsey also is inactive as he tries to come back from ACL surgery. Quarterback Christian Ponder, cornerbacks Chris Davis and Keith Reaser, offensive lineman John Theus and defensive lineman Taylor Hart also are inactive.
