San Antonio Spurs Week In Review: Chalk up another undefeated week

The San Antonio Spurs started their week on Wednesday hosting the Boston Celtics , and the three day rest between games manifested itself immediately.

The San Antonio Spurs outscored the Celtics 32-23 in the first quarter and controlled the game the rest of the way. Although the Celtics put up a fight and made runs, the Spurs always countered those runs with scoring bursts of their own.

Kawhi Leonard led with 26 points, and Pau Gasol put in a great all around performance with 17 points, 13 boards, six assists, two steals and a blocked shot.

Tony Parker was efficient, scoring 16 to go with seven assist. The bench threesome of Manu Ginobili, Patty Mills, and Dewayne Dedmon all contributed double figure games.

The 33 assists as a team on 54 percent shooting is what stood out most on this night for the Spurs who won 108-101.

The Spurs traveled to the Valley of the Sun on the following night, and were in a battle as the game entered the 4th quarter, clinging to a three point lead.

The Spurs went to work and outscored the Suns 33-21 to finish off the game and emerge with a 107-92 victory.

San Antonio on the second night shot the ball well, connecting on 53 percent of their shots. With the starters scoring 67 points and the bench chipping in 40 points, the Silver and Black showed what a balanced attack they possess as everyone played well.

Dedmon continues to provide highlight reel dunks lately, like the one below.

Finishing off another week without a single loss on Sunday night against the New Orleans Pelicans (Technically the start of another week), the Spurs continued their hot shooting from the floor.

Against New Orleans, San Antonio shot 49 percent. Contributing to that percentage was burring 11 of their 22 three point attempts.

Despite a run by the Pelicans late in the 4th quarter, the Spurs dominated in the 2nd and 3rd quarters and looked ahead to the retired jersey ceremony for Tim Duncan that took place after the game.

With 31 assists and deft shooting, the Spurs collectively played well and showcased TEAM basketball at its finest as they have ever since Duncan graced the San Antonio Spurs with his presence 19 years ago.

Ginobili was extra fiery on this night. He finished with probably his best game of the season–17 points on 6 for 9 shooting, including a rare dunk these days in the twilight of his career.

After the game, the Spurs honored Duncan and raised his jersey to the rafters. Thanks to No. 21, five Championship Banners have been raised to the rafters as well!

The Spurs strive to continue carry on their tradition of winning this next week with road games at Houston, the Clippers, and the Blazers, before hosting the Bulls on Christmas Day.

The Spurs are a stout 22-5 and trail the Warriors by only one game in the loss column. I feel a holiday letdown is forthcoming and completely understandable with this week’s tough schedule on the road.

I’ll say 2-2. If they win all four though, I won’t be surprised. The way they have been playing as of late, it seems this team is starting to gel.
