Dayton QB Jeske's recovery progressing
(STATS) - Dayton starting quarterback Alex Jeske continues to recover from a foot injury and is projected to return to the Flyers' lineup after missing about three games next month.
The redshirt junior and team captain suffered a Jones fracture, breaking the little toe in his left foot, shortly before Dayton's preseason camp. Surgery on Aug. 1 was successful, but after Jeske gets his cast off later this week, he will have to go through two different types of boots.
Coach Rick Chamberlin and his team hope to have Jeske back for the start of their Pioneer Football League schedule Sept. 23 at Morehead State. One week later, the Flyers will host defending league champion San Diego in a pivotal game.
Dayton finished 9-2 last season as Jeske averaged 238.5 yards of total offense per game, throwing for 15 touchdowns and rushing for 15 more. He was an honorable mention selection for the All-PFL team.
Redshirt sophomores Will Bobek and Kyle Kaparos are competing to be the season-opening quarterback Sept. 2 at Robert Morris.
