Venters was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left shoulder strain Thursday.
The nature of the injury was initially undisclosed but was confirmed as a shoulder strain by the Nationals on Friday. If the issue isn't a severe one, Venters could be back as soon as next Thursday, as the move was made retroactive to Monday, but the team has yet to announce a timeline.
Venters landed on the 10-day injured list with an undisclosed injury Thursday.
The assignment was made retroactive to Monday, so Venters will be eligible to return as soon as next Thursday. The veteran has had a rough time this season when healthy, allowing 16 runs (11 earned) in eight innings of work while posting a walk rate of 20.4 percent between Atlanta and Washington, so the Nationals may not be looking to rush him back.
Venters (0-1) took the loss Friday against the Royals, giving up three runs (one earned) on three hits and a walk in the 11th inning while striking out one.
The veteran lefty had to deal with a Ryan Zimmerman throwing error behind him, but Venters had already allowed the winning run to score at that point. He now has a 2.70 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 5:2 K:BB in 3.1 innings since joining the Nats.
