Unlikely for Opening Day rosterThe Padres don't plan to include Gore on their Opening Day roster, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.
ImpactSince Dinelson Lamet (elbow) is slated to begin the season on the injured list, Gore was given the chance to compete for the vacant fifth starter's role in spring training, but he never built much momentum in the job battle. He struggled to locate his pitches over his five Cactus League outings, working 11 innings and giving up seven runs (six earned) on 12 hits and eight walks. Adrian Morejon and Ryan Weathers clearly outperformed Gore in the competition for the rotation spot and thus will be first in line to fill in for Lamet. Gore could still be a candidate for a first-half promotion if he can show improved command at the Padres' alternate site and during the early portion of the minor-league season.

Breaking camp with big clubCrismatt was informed Monday that he has secured a spot on the Padres' Opening Day roster, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.
ImpactThe Padres are expected to select Crismatt's contract prior to Thursday's opener against the Diamondbacks to make his addition to the 40-man and 26-man rosters official. Before getting non-tendered over the winter and latching on with the Padres on a minor-league deal, Crismatt made his big-league debut with St. Louis in 2020, giving up three earned runs while striking out eight in 8.1 innings.

Sent to alternate siteThe Padres optioned O'Grady to their alternate training site Monday, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.
ImpactO'Grady was informed that he missed out on the Opening Day roster after Jorge Mateo and Tucupita Marcano secured the final two bench roles that were up for grabs. The 28-year-old made a spirited bid for a reserve job this spring, posting an .843 OPS while going 2-for-3 on stolen-base attempts over 44 Cactus League at-bats.

Gets spot on rosterThe Padres informed Williams on Monday that he would be included on the Opening Day roster, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.
ImpactDue to a slew of injuries to other relievers along with the fact that he had no minor-league options remaining, Williams was able to nail down a spot in the San Diego bullpen. Williams saved six games for the Mariners in 2020 before coming over to San Diego in a deal at the trade deadline, but he's not expected to be much of a factor for the Friars in the late innings in 2021. Mark Melancon, Emilio Pagan and Drew Pomeranz look like the clear top three candidates for saves to begin the season, and Williams will probably be pushed further down the pecking order once Austin Adams (elbow) is cleared to return from the injured list.
