– NEW YORK – The fourth edition of the World Baseball Classic figures to be the most lucrative. The tournament opens Monday when South Korea hosts Israel in Seoul.

– MIAMI – White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu can return to spring training after concluding his testimony in the trial of two men accused of smuggling Cuban ballplayers.

– MADRID – Coach Luis Enrique jolted Barcelona by saying he needs to rest and will not return next season. Sevilla’s Jorge Sampaoli is among the top candidates for one of soccer’s glamour jobs.

– Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Everton’s Romelu Lukaku are 23-year-old strikers leading the English Premier League scoring race. They face each other Sunday.
