2025 College Football Playoff Buzz: North Carolina Hires Bobby Petrino as OC

Javen Nicholas - Headed to Durham Nicholas will transfer to Duke, per Chris Hummer of 247Sports.com.

Impact Nicholas spent three seasons as a benchwarmer at LSU. He transferred to Charlotte for his senior year, where he exploded for 60 catches, 740 yards and five touchdowns. Now, the 5-foot-9, 190-pound receiver will take his talents pack to the Power Four level, where he'll play for a dynamic quarterback at Duke in Darian Mensah.

CJ Campbell Jr. - Headed to Durham Campbell will transfer to Duke, per On3.com.

Impact Campbell transferred to Rutgers for his senior season after a great year with Florida Atlantic in 2024 in which he ran for 844 yards and reeled in 466 receiving yards, totaling 14 touchdowns. However, he was carted to the locker room in Week 3 against Norfolk State and didn't return. That was a brutal twist of fate for the tailback, but the silver lining is that it occurred in Week 3, meaning he still has eligibility remaining for 2026. He'll join a running back room that includes young stud Nate Sheppard, but he'll look to add experience and depth for the Blue Devils next fall.

Ari Patu - Joins the Blue Devils Patu announced via social media that he has committed to joining Duke for the 2026 campaign.

Impact Patu joins the Blue Devils after two seasons with North Alabama. The senior quarterback made seven appearances during 2025, completing 48 of 95 passes for 517 yards and five touchdowns.

Nate Kurisky - Commits to Duke Kurisky has committed to Duke, Max Olson of ESPN reports.

Impact Every year from 2023 to 2025 for Louisville, Kurisky logged at least 100 receiving yards and multiple touchdowns. He will transfer to a fellow ACC team that recently finished atop the conference's standings. Much of Duke's excellence is from Darian Mensah, who the Blue Devils not only retained for 2026 but also recorded double-digit touchdown passes to his tight ends.

Cooper Barkate - Scores vs. Sun Devils Barkate notched four receptions (on 12 targets) for 37 yards and one touchdown during Wednesday's 42-39 victory against Arizona State.

Impact Barkate was held to 37 yards in Duke's bowl game victory, but he managed to find the end zone to salvage his performance from a fantasy perspective. The senior wideout had an excellent season after transferring from Harvard, as he posted 72 catches for 1,106 yards and seven touchdowns, proving his game translates to big-time college football. Likely out of eligibility, Barkate appears primed to look towards the next level.

Que'Sean Brown - Scores twice during bowl Brown logged 10 receptions (on 13 targets) for 178 yards and two touchdowns during Wednesday's 42-39 victory versus Arizona State.

Impact Concerning 2025, Brown saved his best for last. Going into the Sun Bowl, none of Duke's games saw him log at least 110 receiving yards or multiple touchdowns. He achieved both Wednesday, assuring, further solidifying an already excellent season with Duke. Brown logged 64 receptions (on 90 targets) for 846 yards and five touchdowns, all career-highs.

JANUARY 2 • ROTOWIRE

Jeremiah Hasley - Finds end zone in bowl win Hasley gathered in 6 of 7 targets for 50 yards and one touchdown during Wednesday's 42-39 win against Arizona State.

Impact Hasley closed out his season by continuing his end-of-year hot streak. The tight end scored at least one touchdown in each of his last four games and finished the year with 40 catches for 454 yards and six touchdowns, easily the best campaign of his career. If he decides to return to the Blue Devils next season, he should be considered one of the better receiving threat tight ends in the ACC, especially when paired with star quarterback Darian Mensah.

Nate Sheppard - TD in three consecutive games Sheppard logged 22 rushes for 170 yards and one touchdown and gathered in 2 of 4 targets for 20 yards during Wednesday's 42-39 victory versus Arizona State.

Impact Duke's last three games saw Sheppard score four times on 66 rushing attempts for 342 yards. Unlike most freshmen, the running back excelled early. Sheppard's 200 carries include 1132 yards (5.7 averaged per carry) and 11 touchdowns. Impressively, he is already proving to be versatile. Out wide, the freshman logged 37 receptions (on 44 targets) for 286 yards (more than 7.5 averaged per catch) and an additional touchdown. For 2026, Sheppard will be among college football's most touted RBs as a sophomore.

JANUARY 2 • ROTOWIRE

Darian Mensah - Lights up Sun Devils in win Mensah was 29-for-51 passing for 327 yards, four touchdowns and one interception during Wednesday's 42-39 victory versus Arizona State. He also had four rushes for 21 yards.

Impact Mensah had cooled off a bit to close out the Blue Devils' regular season, but the dynamic quarterback was back to his old ways against Arizona State. He tossed for four touchdowns for the second time this year, and closes out a stellar 2025 campaign with 3,973 yards, 36 touchdowns and four interceptions while completing 66.8 percent of his passes. Those kind of numbers, even in a Duke uniform, are good enough to garner some Heisman hype this offseason.

Anderson Castle - Five carries, one touchdown Castle had five rushes for 18 yards and one touchdown during Wednesday's 42-39 victory against Arizona State.

Impact Unlike each of Duke's previous three games, Castle logged fewer than 10 rushing attempts, but his limited opportunities did not stop him from logging a touchdown. Transferring from mid-major Appalachian State to Power Conference staple Duke is a tough challenge that the running back took in stride. Castle logged career-highs in carries (115), rushing yards (488) and touchdowns (12).

Darian Mensah - Returning to Duke Mensah is returning to Duke for his 2026 season, Pete Thamel of ESPN reports.

Impact Instead of entering the 2026 NFL Draft, for which he had the potential to be one of its top-five quarterbacks, Mensah will use his junior season with Duke. The 2025 Blue Devils' season is not yet complete, considering Dec. 31's bowl game against Arizona State scheduled, so his current campaign may cap off with over 4,000 passing yards and 30 touchdowns should he excel at the Sun Bowl just before this year comes to a close.
