The presence of Miss Universe — and her diamond-encrusted tiara — created the biggest celebrity buzz at Super Bowl 50 Opening Night.
Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach was dispatched by "Inside Edition" to interview members of the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers. As if her presence wasn’t enough to draw players’ attention, Wurtzbach is well known for another reason.
She was part of a major Miss Universe gaffe when host Steve Harvey incorrectly crowned runner-up Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo as the winner during December’s pageant.
Wurtzbach was admittedly unaware that Super Bowl winners receive their own gaudy jewelry (rings) as a reward. But for someone who didn’t follow football while growing up in the Philippines, Wurtzbach acquitted herself well when asking questions of Broncos players.
She also accommodated fans, media and players at the SAP Center who wanted to take a photo. That included Denver safety/returner Omar Bolden, who flashed a mile-wide grin while posing with Wurtzbach for a selfie.
"The questions that they ask me a lot during (media) interviews, I throw back at them," Wurtzbach said with a smile. "Now, it’s my turn."
