WATCH: Caldwell compares Tate to Willie Mays after Lions' Week 11 win

Published Nov. 24, 2015 1:37 p.m. ET

The scene was jovial in the Detroit Lions' locker room after their 18-13 win over the Oakland Raiders in Week 11. Head coach Jim Caldwell congratulated his players during the post-game celebration, as his Lions managed to win back-to-back games for the first time this season.

Caldwell singles out wide receiver Golden Tate -- who had a big day fielding punts in addition to his work on offense -- at the 40-second mark in the video below, courtesy of the NFL's official Twitter account.

"Everybody just did a great job. The kicking game was very, very good," Caldwell said. "As a matter of fact, I couldn't tell if that was Golden back there or Willie Mays."

The locker room erupts when Caldwell makes the comparison, but Tate probably didn't appreciate the compliment as much as he should have. Mays, a 12-time winner of MLB's Gold Glove Award, retired from professional baseball 15 years before Tate was even born.

"[He] doesn't even know who Willie Mays is," Caldwell said shortly after making the comparison, realizing that Tate is probably too young to get it.
