Chiefs inactives: Jamaal Charles out, Phillip Gaines in

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The Kansas City Chiefs have some inactives news, and we cover it all right here.

On Sunday afternoon, the Chiefs host the New York Jets at Arrowhead Stadium, but will be without some very notable players. We all knew that Jamaal Charles was likely to be out after being listed as doubtful on Friday, and it has been made official.

Meanwhile, the offensive line continues to be stretched thin. Jah Reid has been dealing with a sprained ankle all week and has been made inactive. The same can be said for Parker Ehinger, who will miss another game with a combination of a concussion and foot problem.

On the positive side, Laurent Duvernay-Tardif is active after Week 2 with a high ankle sprain. However, Terez Paylor of the Kansas City Star is reporting that Duvernay-Tardif will be a backup with Jordan Devey and Zach Fulton getting the starts at guard. Perhaps Alex Smith should take out an insurance policy.

Kansas City has to be very concerned with the guard play this week. New York has some of the best defensive linemen in the league with Muhammad Wilkerson and Sheldon Richardson alongside Steve McLendon and Leonard Williams.

On the good side, Phillip Gaines is active after being listed as questionable with a knee injury sustained on Friday. Gaines will be needed early and often against Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker and Quincy Enunwa.
