Ben Simmons is not planning to work out for the 76ers

The Philadelphia 76ers aren't technically on the clock, but they are in the driver's seat for this month's NBA Draft. The Sixers hold the No. 1 pick and are expected to take former LSU star Ben Simmons.

But despite the 76ers' interest in the versatile forward, it appears the feeling is not mutual. Simmons is not expected to work out for Philly ahead of the June 23 draft.

"As of this moment, not yet, but we are working on it," 76ers general manager Bryan Colangelo said, via NJ.com.

Colangelo said the Sixers, who won just 10 games last season, are trying to set up a workout, but Simmons' reps don't appear eager.

"His agent has decided that is the process they are undertaking," Colangelo said. "Why don't you call (Simmons' agent) Rich Paul and ask him. It has nothing to do with us, and nothing to do with Philadelphia. Everybody goes about it a little differently. Sometimes players decide to work out, sometimes they decide not to work out."

Despite Simmons averaging 19.2 points, 11.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists in his lone season in college, his perimeter shooting has been questioned. He took just three shots from beyond the 3-point arc last season, hitting one. With the recent emphasis on 3-point shooting, this could be an area of concern for teams.

If the Sixers, who completed their third consecutive sub-20-win season, pass on Simmons, the Los Angeles Lakers would be next on the draft board followed by the Boston Celtics.
