Nationals' Harper returns to lineup for series finale against Dodgers

Published Aug. 12, 2015 7:22 p.m. ET

Washington Nationals right fielder Bryce Harper will return to the lineup for Wednesday night's series finale against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Harper, the National League leader with 29 homers, sat out Tuesday's game due to soreness and swelling in his left knee. He was hurt Monday when he banged the knee while attempting to make a sliding catch.

Although Harper played the rest of that game, he woke up Tuesday with swelling in the joint. Harper injured the same knee in May 2013, spent more than a month on the disabled list and eventually underwent surgery after the season.

Harper is riding a 10-game hitting streak and has reached base safely in 36 of his last 37 games. The streak could be in jeopardy against Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw - Harper is 1-for-9 with six strikeouts lifetime against the reigning National League Cy Young winner.
