Any great NBA coach will tell you that you're nothing without your assistants. It was certainly true for Steve Kerr as Golden State Warriors head coach with new New Orleans Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry. And Gentry in turn is making that lesson manifest with his staff in New Orleans.
Gentry had already announced three of his assistant/associate coaches at his introductory press conference, but over the weekend, Yahoo! Sports/FOX Sports 1 NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Gentry would add Phil Weber to his staff.
Weber had previously worked with Gentry when he was coach of the Phoenix Suns. He's also worked with the New York Knicks. While Gentry is known as an offensive guru and assitant Darren Erman is renowned for his defensive acumen, Weber's greatest strength might be his positive attitude. He's often worked with players in a development role, but he's also served as coach of various summer league teams and has a mind for Xs and Os.
