Sam Allardyce out as England manager after just one game

England have parted ways with Sam Allardyce after the manager was caught in a sting allegedly advising businessmen on how to skirt FA rules. The Telegraph's investigative report claimed that Allardyce was giving advice on how to get around the FA's laws governing third party ownership.

"Allardyce's conduct, as reported today, was inappropriate of the England manager," an FA statement read. "He accepts he made a significant error of judgement and has apologized. However, due to the serious nature of his actions, The FA and Allardyce have mutually agreed to terminate his contract with immediate effect."

Allardyce was only hired as England manager this summer, replacing Roy Hodgson. It was his dream job and one he had spent more than a decade chasing. However his dream lasted only one match, a 1-0 win over Slovakia in 2018 World Cup qualifying on September 4, because of the scandal.

The FA announced that Gareth Southgate will take over as manager for the next four matches -- World Cup qualifiers against Malta, Slovenia and Scotland, then a friendly against Spain. That will keep the Three Lions covered through the remainder of the year.

Southgate has been with the FA since 2011, when he was named the head of elite development. He has since worked as England's U-20 and U-21 manager.
