New York Islanders: Another Gaudreau Joins the NHL After Career in NCAA

Another Gaudreau Has Joined the NHL With the New York Islanders Organization After a Solid NCAA Career.

The New York Islanders have signed NCAA free agent, Matt Gaudreau. The 22-year-old right winger who is a rather small guy at 5'9" and 150 pounds was signed to an AHL contract. So if Matt plays well enough to earn a potential call-up, he would then have to sign an NHL contract.

He'll be playing for Bridgeport next season after four years with Boston College where he seen his point totals increase every season. In 2013-14 he scored only one point in eight games, in 2014-15 he managed six points in 32 games. Next, in 2015-16 he scored 21 points in 39 games and finally in 2016-17 he totaled 35 points in 40 games.

Gaudreau who is no relation to Nashville's Frederick Gaudreau is the younger brother of Flames star Johnny Gaudreau though. He had signed a contract before, it was just an amateur tryout contract when his NCAA career ended, but that didn't go far and he remained as a free agent the last year.

How well Gaudreau will do in the AHL is obviously yet to be seen, but since the Islanders have some solid prospects down there such as Michael Dal Colle, and Joshua Ho-Sang that know how to generate offense, he'll definitely get on the scoresheet, or at least get very close. He has joined a very solid organization.
