Report: Rift between Rams coach Jeff Fisher and GM Les Snead
The Los Angeles Rams are becoming the NFC’s most dysfunctional team because head coach Jeff Fisher and general manager Les Snead are not on good terms.
The Los Angeles Rams are a miserable 4-8 on the season. Moving to Los Angeles from St. Louis has not been easy for this struggling NFC football franchise. After beginning the season at 3-1, the Rams have dropped seven of their last eight games.
In Albert Breer‘s Thursday column for the Monday Morning Quarterback, he exposes a major fracture in the Rams organization between head coach Jeff Fisher and general manager Les Snead.
During a press conference in Thousand Oaks on Tuesday, Fisher was completely oblivious to Snead getting a contract extension and then tossed his boss under the bus.
“I’m so busy here, I was honestly unaware he was extended. I’m being honest with you, we’re just working here,” Fisher said. “I look at this as being my responsibility, the win-loss record. We need to do a better job from a personnel standpoint. We’ve had some unfortunate things take place with some high picks in Stedman Bailey and Tre Mason and those kinds of things you don’t anticipate.”
Wow. If that isn’t a blatant shot at Snead from Fisher, what is? Fisher singled out two whiffs of Snead’s, but couldn’t defend his general manager for drafting any of these players: Alec Ogletree, Aaron Donald, Todd Gurley and Robert Quinn.
A team without a unified front office and coaching staff will not succeed in the NFL. It seems Rams owner Stan Kroenke is clearly trying to showcase to other top coaching/front office candidates that he will be patient in getting the Rams back on track with the Fisher and Snead extensions.
However, this arranged marriage between Fisher and Snead since 2012 is crumbling before our eyes. Something has to give and it will probably be Fisher. Snead has shown that he can draft on the defensive side of the ball. All the Rams get from Fisher is a perpetual 7-9. Not sure the 2016 Rams even hit that win/loss threshold.
Los Angeles is becoming a grease fire in the NFC and it’s up to Kroenke to fix this so will he pull the plug on Fisher or Snead or both?
