Redskins CB Chris Culliver: The talent here is special

The Washington Redskins made a lot of additions to their defense this offseason. Cornerback Chris Culliver was one of their biggest acquisitions, and after playing several consecutive seasons on some very talented 49ers defenses, he is excited about the potential of this Redskins defense.

“Oh, I definitely feel like the talent here is special,” Culliver said, per Redskins Blog. “It’s a good group of guys coming together.”

Culliver is entrenched as a starter for the Redskins after signing a four-year, $32 million contract this offseason. Culliver finished as the 14th-best cornerback in the NFL, per Pro Football Focus' grades. He also showed an ability to make plays on the football, with a career-high four interceptions in 2014.

Culliver feels a togetherness already with his defensive teammates. This is surprising when you consider how much roster turnover the defense underwent this offseason.

“Man, things have been wonderful out there – the communication and just the standpoint of just coming together,” Culliver said. “Everybody out here in camp and just communicating and going through the reps together, you know? So that’s the best way we’re going to be great.”

Communication could become an issue for the Redskins' secondary over the next couple of weeks, and they will really be tested. Projected starter Deangelo Hall will miss 'at least a week' after injuring his groin late last week, and the Redskins are also dealing with injuries to the next two players on the depth chart--Bashaud Breeland and David Amerson.
