Reports: Pierce carjacked at gunpoint
Ravens running back Bernard Pierce was carjacked and robbed at gunpoint over the weekend, according to a report from CBS 3 in Philadelphia.
Sources told CBS 3 that Pierce was robbed in Philadelphia on Sunday night. Those sources said a car with two men pulled beside Pierce’s vehicle, and an armed man jumped out and approached Pierce’s car while the other remained behind the wheel.
The man stole Pierce’s BMW, but neither Pierce nor a male companion in the car were injured during the incident. The car was later recovered, taken to a police garage and processed in the hope of finding evidence.
The Philadelphia Daily News reports that the other man in Pierce's car was his cousin, and that Pierce also had his cell phone and wallet stolen during the incident.
“We have been in contact with Bernard and we are aware of the situation,” the Ravens told CBS 3 in a statement.
The Ravens selected Pierce in the third round of the 2012 NFL draft, and he performed well as a rookie backup to Ray Rice last season.
Pierce finished the year with 532 yards, ranking sixth among all rookies. His biggest breakout performances came late in the season.
He combined for 212 yards in the final two games of the regular season, and then rushed for more than 100 yards on only 13 carries in the first round of the playoffs on the way to the Ravens winning the Super Bowl.
