MARTINSVILLE, Va. — Brad Keselowski led the way in Saturday’s first of two practice sessions ahead of Sunday’s STP 500 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway (12:30 p.m. ET, FS1).
Keselowski laid down a fast lap of 94.406 miles per hour on the half-mile Virginia short track. Ryan Newman finished second in the session with a speed of 94.092 mph.
Martin Truex Jr., Joey Logano and AJ Allmendinger rounded out the top five.
“After we’ve run here, the track is really starting to build up a lot of rubber, so I feel like this place is going to change a lot,” Allmendinger told FOX Sports during practice. “We’re not the fastest car yet, but we’re close. We definitely need a good run.”
After Friday’s qualifying session was rained out, the field was set by car owner points as Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott are on the front row.
Final Cup practice is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on FS1.
