Padres chairman singles out Matt Kemp while again ripping his team

Published Nov. 15, 2016 3:08 p.m. ET

San Diego Padres executive chairman Ron Fowler still is seething, two months after calling his team “miserable failures.”

Despite being more aggressive in the trade and free-agency markets in recent seasons, the Padres are headed for their sixth consecutive sub-.500 finish. And at a town hall meeting with fans this week, Fowler didn’t try to hide his disappointment and frustration.

Fowler referenced James Shields and Matt Kemp as players who were traded because of their perceived poor attitudes.

"Kemp’s letter" refers to a recent column on The Players’ Tribune in which he announced his excitement about being traded to the Braves and expressed his regret about not helping the Padres win a World Series.

In 100 games with San Diego this season, Kemp hit .262/.285/.489 with 23 homers and 69 RBI.

In any case, seems like a fun time to be around Petco Park.
