Madison Bumgarner is doubling as a hitting coach for new rotation mate

Consulting Madison Bumgarner for pitching advice is a given. But the ace lefty also is handing out hitting tips in spring training.

Rotation mate Matt Moore, acquired from the Rays last August, had spent his entire career in the AL – with the DH – prior to the deal that brought him to the Giants. And it showed, as Moore went 0-for-21 with San Francisco before breaking through with an infield single in the regular-season finale.




That’s where Bumgarner – a man who hit for himself in an AL park last season and lobbied to participate in last summer’s Home Run Derby – comes in. Bumgarner’s instructions:

“He tells me to swing hard,” Moore said, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
