Big Papi posed for selfie with kids before mashing 5th-inning homer

David Ortiz treated some young Boston Red Sox fans to bubble gum and a selfie on Saturday in Detroit.

Then he walked to the plate and treated them to a two-run homer.

Ortiz, who is retiring after this season, spotted the kids from the on-deck circle in the fifth inning, then walked over and handed out the candy and posed for the pic before heading to the plate.

An unorthodox approach for sure, but it worked. Just watch:

The Red Sox beat the Tigers, 3-2.
