2024 Bronny James NBA Draft odds: Suns move to second on oddsboard

Updated May. 28, 2024 1:52 p.m. ET

Bronny James is set to have his first private workout with a team ahead of the 2024 NBA Draft.

The Phoenix Suns will work out the USC guard, The Athletic reported Friday. Over 10 teams have sent an invitation to James to work out for them ahead of the draft in June, but he's expected to only visit a a handful of teams, The Athletic added in its report.

With the Suns being one of those select teams, their odds to land James have jumped drastically. But, have they surpassed the Los Angeles Lakers as the favorites to draft LeBron James' son?

Here's what the latest odds say, via FanDuel Sportsbook.

Bronny James turns heads at NBA Draft combine, will he prove haters wrong?

As of May 24, the Suns held the third-best odds to draft Bronny at +1200.

As of Tuesday, those odds have dropped to +750, and now they sit in second.

While the Lakers are still the favorites to draft James, he is one of "several players in consideration" to be selected by the Suns with the 22nd overall pick, per the latest from The Athletic.

Phoenix considering selecting James with its first-round pick might be a bit of a surprise to some. Most mock drafts have him listed as a second-round selection, and DraftKings Sportsbook lists his draft position at 39.5, with the juice being on Over 39.5 (-160).

One note to keep in mind is that the Suns don't have their second-round pick this year (lost for tampering violations), so if they want Bronny, they would either need to select him in the first-round or potentially trade back in the draft.

"It's gonna come down to the development plan, it's gonna come down to guaranteed money — whether it's late in the first round or in the second round," said NBA insider Shams Charania on FanDuel's "Run It Back" show.

Meanwhile, the Lakers are in an interesting bind with their picks.

The New Orleans Pelicans have until June 1 to decide whether they want the Lakers' first-round pick in the 2024 NBA Draft or the 2025 NBA Draft. If the Pelicans opt not to take the Lakers' pick in June's draft, Los Angeles would hold the 17th overall pick.

The Lakers' only other pick in the draft is the 55th selection, one of the final few picks.

Even though James left the door open to return to college when he declared, it was reported earlier in May that he planned to stay in the draft. It also appears more and more likely that he'll end up being selected, after he participated in the NBA Draft Combine and the reviews were mostly positive

James only played in 25 games, averaging 19.4 minutes per contest, as he missed the first month of the season after he suffered cardiac arrest last August.

He averaged 4.8 points and 2.1 assists per game last season.
