Demetrious Johnson isn't getting 'hyped' about McGregor-Mayweather until it becomes reality

In a new wide-ranging interview with Sports Illustrated's Jon Wertheim, UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson said he's not yet "hyped up" for a potential fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather.

"If it happens, it happens," Johnson said. "If it doesn't, it doesn't."

The possibility of a McGregor-Mayweather mega-fight appeared to come closer to reality when UFC president Dana White said McGregor agreed to terms for a boxing-rules fight with Mayweather this month.

The fight would pit McGregor, a UFC fighter, against a boxer, Mayweather. But the rumored bout is far from a certainty, and the two parties don't appear to be close to making it a reality.

"I'm not sitting here getting hyped up until I know they're both together," Johnson said. "I'd rather see Mayweather fight the winner of Canelo [Alvarez] and Triple G. And I'd rather see Conor defend his belt."
