Conor McGregor opens as betting favorite over Eddie Alvarez

Conor McGregor may be fighting in the UFC as a lightweight for the first time on Nov. 12 but the odds are on his side to come away with a victory.

McGregor faces lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez in the main event at UFC 205 being held in Madison Square Garden as he looks to become the first ever simultaneous two division champ in company history.

McGregor is coming off a majority decision win over Nate Diaz at UFC 202 and he hopes to add Alvarez's title to his trophy case when they meet in November.

According to the odds makers at Bovada.lv, McGregor has opened as a slight favorite at -140 over Alvarez ahead of their fight.

Alvarez will walk into the Octagon as the underdog with +110 odds on him. In other words if you bet $100 on Alvarez to win, you'd get back $110 based on the current odds.

Now the odds for a fight of this magnitude will likely shift dramatically before McGregor and Alvarez ever step into the Octagon together.

McGregor opened as a slight favorite over Diaz in August but he ended up with the odds even more in his favor after a lot of money was bet on him at the sports book.

The same might happen in his fight with Alvarez depending on how betters place wagers ahead of the historic matchup in November.
