Werder Bremen have been so bad that they fired their manager after just four matches

Werder Bremen have lost all three of their matches in the Bundesliga, they've been out-scored 12-2 and they went out in the first round of the DFB-Pokal to Sportfreunde Lotte, who were just promoted to the third division. So it's not entirely surprising that they fired manager Viktor Skrypnyk. After all, you can't do much worse than Werder have to start the season.

This might be the only time when firing your manager four matches into a campaign is reasonable.

Werder knew they were going to be in a relegation fight this season. They were only two points away from landing in the relegation playoff a year ago and they made a lot of signings in the summer, but none of them were truly inspiring. Max Kruse was their big signing and he's a nice player, but he doesn't make a bad team, well, not bad.

Skrypnyk wasn't exactly working with a full deck of cards. Then again, he was working with more than Sportfreunde Lotte. And there's a big difference between being a bad team and getting out-scored 12-2 in three matches.

Now Alexander Nouri takes over as manager, but only on a temporary basis. Sporting director Frank Baumann was very clear about that, insisting that they will look elsewhere for a permanent replacement, but finding one from the bottom of the table and with a flawed team won't be easy. The good news is it will be hard for the rest of the season to go any worse than it has so far.
