Former Barcelona star Pedro says Premier League is 'strongest in the world'
Chelsea winger Pedro has found new life at Stamford Bridge under Antonio Conte, and he thinks the club's current winning run is more impressive than any one he managed to put together while at Barcelona.
Pedro spent seven seasons at the Nou Camp, winning five La Liga titles and three Champions Leagues in his time there. He's currently part of the record-breaking Chelsea team with 11 consecutive victories, and they're shooting for Arsenal's Premier League record of 14 straight wins.
This record would be special for Pedro, who's used to winning, but is finding England to be a tough test: “It’s very different in Spain. Barca have many opportunities all the time to win matches, which in England is very difficult because the challenges are greater. You can see it week after week – the top teams lose to a team near the bottom because everybody is very good and the competition is very tough.
"It's not new for me, but it's difficult in this league. It's different here," Pedro told the Daily Telegraph. "At Barcelona, it's normal to win most of the games and sometimes it's too easy.
"But the Premier League is very competitive and strong, and for this reason, 11 wins is a significant achievement. The record is 14, no? Only three wins more, but that will be difficult. Bournemouth are a good team. It's a very good objective to get this record.
"It's very different in Spain. Barca have many opportunities all the time to win matches, which in England is very difficult because the challenges are greater."
Pedro's first season in England was the worst Pedro's ever experienced. He struggled upon arriving at Stamford Bridge, and eventually ended up in 10th with Chelsea, an unheard of proposition coming from the time-honored winning tradition at the Nou Camp.
"Second is a disaster at Barcelona, so last season was a new situation for me," said the Spanish attacker. "It was a difficult situation for everyone, for the club, the team and the coach. There were a lot of problems, but this season is different.
"I would love to win the Premier League because it's the strongest league in the world and I think that would be something really good for my career.''
The way Chelsea are playing, 14 straight wins is more than achievable, and Pedro's first Premier League title looks like a real possibility.
The biggest issue might be finding space in his trophy cabinet.
