Twins' Jose Berrios turns heads with nifty breaking ball
The Minnesota Twins are reshaping their franchise with an injection of youth and prospects.
Every Thursday for the rest of the season, FOX Sports North will take a closer look at some specific young players -- as well as noting others who might be stepping up -- measuring, highlighting and evaluating their progress.

Jose Berrios (age 22)

Notable: The hype surrounding Berrios' sophomore season went nuclear following his second start, an eight-inning shutout that featured 11 strikeouts. The raw numbers from his third start -- 6.1 innings, seven Ks, three solo home runs -- aren't quite as impressive, but that breaking ball. Just look at it.

Nick Burdi (age 24/Double-A)
Last week: 2 games (0 starts), 0-0, 2.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Season: 14 games (no starts), 2-0, 0.53 ERA, 17 IP, 9 H, 1 HR, 4 BB, 20 K, .161 OBA, 0.765 WHIP
Notable: He allowed three hits last week and had just one strikeout, but Burdi has now gone seven games and 8.2 innings without allowing a run.
Lewin Diaz (age 20/Low-A)
Last week: 6 games, 22 AB, 6 H, 1 2B, 0 3B, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI, 0 SB, 4 BB, 5 K, .273 BA.
Season: 44 games, 170 AB, .288 BA, .324 OBP, .506 SLG, .830 OPS, 17 2B, 1 3B, 6 HR, 19 R, 28 RBI, 0 SB, 9 BB, 28 K.
Notable: Diaz's 12-game hitting streak came to an end Tuesday, when he went 0-for-4 in a loss to the Clinton LumberKings. He bounced back in the third game of the series, hitting his 17th double of the season.
Stephen Gonsalves (age 22/Double-A)
Last week: 1 game (1 start), 0-1, 4 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 3 K
Season: 2 game (1 start), 0-1, 4.50 ERA, 4 IP, 2 H, 1 HR, 1 BB, 3 K, .143 OBA, 0.75 WHIP
Notable: Gonsalves made his season debut last week after recovering from a shoulder injury. He allowed a home run in his return after allowing just three last season, but made up with it with a slick catch, flashing his glove and making a backhanded grab on a line drive.
Nick Gordon (age 21/Double-A)
Last week: 6 games, 21 AB, 4 H, 3 2B, 0 3B, 0 HR, 4 R, 0 RBI, 2 SB, 3 BB, 6 K, .190 BA.
Season: 43 games, 171 AB, .304 BA, .372 OBP, .485 SLG, .857 OPS, 12 2B, 5 3B, 3 HR, 26 R, 23 RBI, 3 SB, 19 BB, 40 K.
Notable: Gordon went through a minor slump last week, going hitless in three games and hitting just .190 overall, before smacking two doubles in a loss to the Biloxi Shuckers.
ByungHo Park (age 30/Triple-A)

Notable: Park continues to work his way back after a month-long absence. He hit two more home runs last week.
Kohl Stewart (age 22/Double-A)

Season: 6 games (6 starts), 0-4, 5.62 ERA, 24 IP, 26 H, 1 HR, 22 BB, 14 K, .280 OBA, 2.00 WHIP
Notable: Stewart hasn't pitched May 7, and is suffering from tendinitis in his left knee.
Others: OF Jaylin Davis led the organization last week with 10 hits and three home runs for Cedar Rapids… 3B Chris Paul of Fort Myers hit .375/.545.750 in 16 at bats… RHP Fernando Romero pitched 12 innings and racked up 15 strikeouts.
