Report: Dolphins put CB Will Davis on trade block

Published Sep. 2, 2015 4:07 p.m. ET

Saturday is the final cutdown day for all 32 teams as they're required to trim their rosters to 53 players. With that comes a boatload of moves made by each team.

The Miami Dolphins reached the required maximum of 75 players on Tuesday, but they're looking to make a few moves before Saturday's deadline, as well.

According to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, the Dolphins are shopping cornerback Will Davis and actively calling teams with trade proposals.

One reason for the recent trade talk could indicate the Dolphins' plans for Davis, who is on the roster bubble. Miami is deep at cornerback with Brent Grimes, Jamar Taylor, and Brice McCain the presumed Week 1 starters. Davis is a backup on the depth chart behind Grimes, but an up-and-down preseason hasn't helped his case.

In 10 games for the Dolphins last season, he made 17 tackles and deflected two passes. He has seven tackles in the preseason, but has looked shaky in coverage. Zack Bowman, and rookies Bobby McCain and Tony Lippett, are more likely candidates to make the team at this point.
