Fantasy Football Start or Sit Week 5: TE Austin Seferian Jenkins
Heading into Week 5 Fantasy Football, tight end Austin Seferian Jenkins isn’t worth taking a risk on against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Make no mistake about it, the New York Jets will more than likely lose their Week 5 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers. They have played some of the worse football one can ever watch and their issues won’t be magically fixed after a week of extra reps in practice. Fantasy football owners should also stay away from any receiving targets of the Jets since quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has already thrown 10 interceptions this season.
When it comes to the tight end situation of the Jets, it’s a position that despite having a few players in, is rarely used as a receiving option. The Jets’ offensive playbook has them used primarily as blockers to help establish the run. Especially in picking up incoming blitzing defenders from taking down the quarterback.
The Jets recently acquired tight end Austin Seferian Jenkins via waivers about a week ago. He didn’t start last week against the Seattle Seahawks and more than likely will not play against the Steelers.
It’s not easy to have a newly acquired offensive player be acclimated to a new offensive playbook and system so quickly. It takes a lot of time to process everything before being able to be depended upon to handle assignments catered to improving the overall offense.
More from The Jet Press
The Jets’ offense has been a complete disaster as of late as it wouldn’t make sense to insert Jenkins in when he’s more than likely not ready yet.
While Jenkins could provide somewhat of a new dimension on offense, fantasy owners would be well advised to stay away from him at least this week.
Jenkins could turn into something nice down the road but the reality of the situation is he’s on an offense that doesn’t use receiving tight ends. He’ll need a bit more time to get used to his new team.
So far in his career, Jenkins has totaled 603 receiving yards, 45 receptions, and seven touchdowns. While he’ll probably be the best playmaking tight end on the roster, he’ll be eased in slowly.
Overall, fantasy owners should consider looking at another tight end this week entering a favorable matchup. Jenkins isn’t worth the risk this week in the grand scheme of things.
