FSU Women's Basketball Week In Review: December 8th-14th

Updated Mar. 5, 2020 2:08 a.m. ET

Here’s a recap of the last week for FSU women’s basketball and a look ahead to what the next week has in store for the Lady ‘Noles.

For much of the last month, the Lady ‘Noles have been not just one of the best teams in the state or in the Atlantic Coast Conference – but in the entire country. FSU’s women have lit up the Tucker Center and put themselves in a position to be one of the nation’s highest ranked teams as the season goes on.

This week, the ladies added two more wins to their total on the season – including an ever important showdown with their hated rivals from about 150 or so miles to the southeast to keep that home win streak alive.

Lets take a look at what the last week was like for FSU women’s basketball and what the upcoming week will be like.

Week in Review

It wouldn’t be easy and didn’t look pretty in the stats column, but the Lady ‘Noles got their fourth win over the Florida Gators in the last five meetings with a convincing 83-58 victory Thursday night in Tallahassee. Leticia Romero led all FSU scorers with 21 points, while Shakayla Thomas added 16.

FSU would shoot just 40 percent from the field on the night, but held a 10 point lead at the half and ran away with a 26-15 advantage in the fourth quarter to dispatch of the 23rd ranked Gators.

Saturday, it was back to the road and a meeting with the UAB Blazers. This one would be no match, as the Seminoles took a 37 point lead into the locker room at the half en route to a 93-47 victory. Brittany Brown dropped 17 points while Thomas was joined by Ivey Slaughter in adding 15.

A Look Ahead

It’s going to be a one and done week for the Lady ‘Noles, who will be dealing with finals this week on campus. Once all the tests are done, FSU will welcome the North Florida Ospreys to town for a 6 PM tipoff on Monday. The UNF game is one of just three non-conference games left – two more before the ACC opener on the 29th and one against Texas in February.
