Giants rookie WR Geremy Davis continues to show promise

Drafted into a deep wide receiver corps, the expectation for rookie sixth-round wide receiver Geremy Davis were not especially high heading into the New York Giants' training camp. Davis has met and shattered all expectations, and he is soaring up the depth chart at wide receiver.

During the Giants' joint practices with the Bengals, Davis worked in with the first team offense, caught a touchdown pass from Eli Manning, and secured several would-be third down grabs. You can recap his impressive practice run here.

Davis hopes to turn his practice success into production during live action, but he knows that might not be the case during the 2015 regular season. The Giants are loaded at wide receiver, and Davis' quickest path to playing time will likely come on special teams.

"I love playing receiver, I'm not gonna lie," Davis said, per Tom Rock of Newsday. "I love playing wide out and I want to contribute to the offense. But if the team's goal for me is to help the team on special teams, I'm going to do that and not be selfish about it."

Davis was raw on special teams entering the NFL, but he has made a lot of progress since the start of OTAs. Special teams coordinator Tom Quinn has been impressed with Davis' work ethic and drive to become a better special teams contributor.

"He's progressing," coordinator Tom Quinn said, per Newsday. "He really works hard at it and has a lot of upside. He didn't do a lot of it in college so a lot of it is new to him, but he's really taken to the coaching."

If Davis can prove himself on special teams, he will be active on the game day roster and earn a role with the team in 2015. Consequently, his rise could prove troubling for second year wide receiver Corey Washington. Although Washington continues to flash as a wide receiver, he has struggled with special teams play.
