Ranking the 6 most quintessential Jeremy Lin haircuts

Published Jul. 20, 2016 3:42 p.m. ET

Jeremy Lin's hair is not unlike the cycles of the moon: mysterious, constantly in flux and directly responsible for the changing sea levels.

It is everything and nothing, because as soon you've drawn a bead on it, it slips away and becomes something else.

This is not how it always was for Lin, a Harvard grad who entered the league with an FDA-approved crewcut and the swag of an erasable pen.

His gradual metamorphosis into a Make-Your-Own video game character is fascinating, and in its honor, we will now rank the offerings his carousel of 'dos have given us over the last six years.

6. A Wild Ponytail Appeared

High fades on the side and a hair tie complete Jeremy Lin's attempt to channel the guy at your YMCA whose only concerns are rebounding and sweating into your eyes.

5. Underground Bitcoin DJ

He'd be the biggest Bitcoin DJ in the game but he refuses to sell out.

4. Swagless in Seattle

I know this isn't Seattle. Just go with it.

3. "That Nice Boy Down the Street"

Lin will occasionally revert to his earliest, base-model look: that nice kid down the street who skateboards but isn't one of those kind of skateboarders.

It's a fine haircut, but never expect it to stay this way.

2. The Dapper Dan

This is more or less standard-issue Lin right now: a long, aggressive comb-over screwed down by gel and possibly boat varnish.

It looks like a haircut you'd commit to if you're looking to land a role in a film Colin Farrell might pass on. So it looks good.

1. Pusha J

French braids and a black shirt. Untouchable. Uncrustable.

This is the newest addition to Lin's rotation, and he should keep it forever.

Thank you, Jeremy. Go with God.

Dan is on Twitter. He's waiting for the Jeremy Curl. It's coming.
