King Felix didn't blame rough sixth inning vs. Boston on twisted ankle

Felix Hernandez suffered his first loss of 2015 on Saturday night, as a tough sixth inning against the Boston Red Sox led to the Seattle Mariners' 4-2 defeat.

That sixth was marked by some definite struggles from Felix, who had issues with command in the frame. He walked three Red Sox hitters and allowed two runs to score in the inning, but told Greg Johns of MLB.com a twisted ankle had nothing to do with it:

"No, it wasn't the ankle. It was just me. It was mechanical. My sinker was moving away from the strike zone…The whole game, I fell behind a lot of times. My command wasn't there."

However, Felix's manager Lloyd McClendon - not used to seeing Hernandez have innings as sloppy as he did on Saturday night - wasn't sure about his assessment that it was purely mechanical:

"He told me it was OK, but I'm not sure if it didn't affect him a little bit," McClendon said. "He seemed to lose his command after that a little bit. It was a tough inning for him."

Hernandez did twist the same ankle back on April 12th against the Oakland A's, so the Mariners will make sure everything is good to go before his next scheduled start.
