Cole Smith - Pockets shorthanded helperSmith notched a shorthanded assist, two shots on goal, four hits and two blocked shots in Thursday's 3-0 win over the Kraken.
ImpactSmith sent a puck out of the zone, and Colton Sissons was the first to get to it on a shorthanded breakaway for the Predators' first goal. After beginning the season on the fourth line, Smith was bumped up to a trio with Cody Glass and Gustav Nyquist for the second game of the year. The 27-year-old Smith had 17 points, 198 hits and 60 PIM in 69 contests last season, his first full NHL campaign. There may be some room to grow if he can hang onto a middle-six spot throughout the year.

ImpactCarrier had an assist on Gustav Nyquist's third-period tally. Through two games this season, Carrier has been paired with Ryan McDonagh, a successful alignment for the Predators' defense. Carrier is up to six blocks and a plus-3 rating, and his assist Thursday was his first point of the campaign. The 27-year-old should continue to work as a top-four option, though he may continue to have more of a defensive focus.

Ryan McDonagh - Notches helper ThursdayMcDonagh recorded an assist, three blocked shots, two shots on goal and a plus-2 rating in Thursday's 3-0 win over the Kraken.
ImpactMcDonagh helped out on Gustav Nyquist's goal in the middle of the third period. In addition to his second helper of the season, McDonagh played his usual role as a top-four defenseman and penalty killer, making several key blocks on a Kraken power play in the final frame. The 34-year-old had a decent 20 points to go with 165 blocked shots in 71 outings last season, and he's already notched five blocks and a plus-3 rating through two contests in 2023-24.
