Neither the police nor USC have released the players’ names, but on March 11 interim coach Bob Cantu suspended center James Blasczyk and forward Dewayne Dedmon for violating teams rules. The fights took place in the early morning hours of March 10. USC played Washington State at Pullman, Wash., the night before and stayed in Spokane.
The unidentified USC players have retained counsel, Spokane Police Dept. spokeswoman Monique Cotton said in an e-mailed statement.
“In order to complete this investigation we must obtain statements from all of the individuals involved, including the USC basketball players,” she said. “Our detectives are working to conduct interviews in coordination with the players and their attorneys.”
USC’s season ended last week with a loss to Utah in the Pac-12 Conference tournament.
