Overeem, Hunt lead UFC 209 salaries; Nurmagomedov misses out on $500,000 payday

Former title contenders Alistair Overeem and his opponent Mark Hunt led the way for salaries at UFC 209 with each of the heavyweight fighters earning $750,000 for their battle last Saturday night in Las Vegas.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission released the salary figures to FOX Sports on Monday.

Overeem defeated Hunt by third round knockout after landing a vicious knee strike that sent the New Zealand native crashing face first into the mat. As for Overeem, he actually won the fight after dealing with a severe case of food poisoning on Friday, which nearly knocked him off the card entirely.

The $750,000 payday earned by both Overeem and Hunt led the UFC 209 payroll as the highest salaries for anyone on the card.

Welterweight champion Tyron Woodley made $500,000 for his majority decision win over Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson in the main event, which put him at third place overall in terms of salaries at UFC 209.

For his part, Thompson cashed in with $380,000 but stood to make another $180,000 with a win, which probably doesn't sting nearly as bad as going home without the UFC welterweight title.

Elsewhere on the card, Khabib Nurmagomedov was knocked out of his co-main event fight with Tony Ferguson on the day before the event due to a weight cutting disaster that put him into the hospital rather than the Octagon.

The missed opportunity to compete cost Nurmagomedov a $500,000 payday that he would have earned, win lose or draw on Saturday night.

His opponent, Tony Ferguson also missed out on fighting, but still earned $250,000 for his show money despite the bout being scrapped. Of course, Ferguson would have preferred to compete where he could have become interim lightweight champion while also earning another $250,000 for a win bonus if he would have defeated Nurmagomedov.

Here are the full salaries for UFC 209 including the post fight bonuses for the athletes on the card.
