Miesha Tate meets Raquel Pennington at UFC 205 in New York

Published Nov. 15, 2016 2:12 p.m. ET

The climb back to the title for Miesha Tate will start at UFC 205 in New York.

The former women's bantamweight champion will return on Nov. 12 where she faces Raquel Pennington on the historic card headed to Madison Square Garden for the first time in UFC history.

UFC officials announced the new matchup on Friday.

Tate will get back into the Octagon for the first time since losing the title to Amanda Nunes at UFC 200 in July. Prior to that loss, Tate had won five fights in a row, including her championship victory over Holly Holm in March.

Tate's manager told FOX Sports earlier this week that the former champion was targeting her next fight before the end of 2016 and now she gets her wish.

Pennington has gone 5-2 since debuting in the promotion with both her losses coming by way of split decision.

Now Pennington will get the opportunity to potentially earn a shot at the belt when she faces Tate in November.
