Midweek Stock Report: Henson coming up big for Bucks

Every Wednesday, FOX Sports Wisconsin takes a look at which athletes' stock is trending up and whose is trending down.

In other words, who is making a meteoric rise, and who is quickly plummeting.

With that in mind, let's "take stock" of the current sports scene in Wisconsin, shall we?

John Henson, Bucks center

Henson isn't about to give up his role as Milwaukee's starting center. In three games last week, Henson averaged 13.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.3 blocks. He really liked playing against Brooklyn. In the Dec. 1 game at the Nets, Henson had 12 points, eight rebounds and five blocks, then two days later in Milwaukee he posted 20 points, tying his season high, seven rebounds and two blocks. In addition, Henson, who coming into this season had never shot better than 59.0 percent from the free-throw line, made 16 of 19 attempts (84.2 percent) this past week and is at 73.2 percent on the season.

Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bucks forward

I say it every week -- Giannis could be listed in the stock report every time we do one of these things. I was determined to not included him this time, but then he went out and averaged 20.3 points, 9.7 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 2.7 steals and 2.7 blocks per game while shooting 51.4 percent from the field and making 4 of 9 3-point attempts. His stock just continues to rise.

Jordy Nelson, Packers wide receiver

If you had any doubts Nelson would come back strong from last year's knee injury, hopefully those are completely out of your mind now. Nelson had eight catches for 118 yards and a touchdown in a win over Houston. But it wasn't just the numbers, he made a couple of great catches, too, including a clutch third-down reception in which he went over a Texans defender and still caught the ball despite the cornerback putting his arm between Nelson's arms to try and obstruct the catch. With Nelson back as a No. 1, it opens up the passing game so much more for everyone.

Sam Hauser, Marquette swingman

The freshman averaged 14.7 points and 5.0 rebounds last week but really stood out in the Golden Eagles' last two games. Hauser scored 19 points in Marquette's wins over Georgia and Fresno State, while making 12 of 17 shots on those two games, including eight of 13 of his 3-point attempts. Hauser is shooting 57.4 percent from the field this season and has five double-digit scoring games.

Travis Shaw, Brewers third baseman

Shaw never could seem to find a home in Boston, as they moved him around from third base to first base (with a few games in the outfield and DH sprinkled in). Traded with prospects for Tyler Thornburg, Shaw can expect to have his feet firmly planted as Milwaukee's third baseman, a position which has been a rotating door since Aramis Ramirez was traded. Seven players appeared at third base for Milwaukee last season, with five of those playing 11 or more games. Shaw should provide some stability. Plus, his nickname, according to baseball-reference.com, is "Mayor of Ding Dong City." Oh, yeah, he's trending up, for sure.

Picked the wrong time for their worst game of the year.

James Starks, Packers running back

Er, four carries for one yard? Newcomer Christine Michael had more than double the carries (9 for 19 yards). And a wide receiver (Ty Montgomery) was in the backfield late in the game when Green Bay was looking to -- and did -- push its lead up to two scores. Ouch.
