Gonsalves gets start, Twins beat Pirates 10-4

Stephen Gonsalves toed the rubber for the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday afternoon and allowed four runs on four hits in three innings of work during a 10-4 win over Pittsburgh.

Gonsalves fanned three hitters and walked two.



Minnesota scored a pair of runs in the first inning. Jorge Polanco mashed a ground-rule double to right field to bring in Max Kepler, and Tyler Austin drove Polanco home on a fielder’s choice.

The Pirates grabbed a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth via Adam Frazier’s RBI single. Melky Cabrera and Jung Ho Kang came in to score, but Erik Gonzalez was thrown out at the plate, tagged out by Twins catcher Willians Astudillo.

Minnesota reliever Ryne Harper shined again, whiffing all three batters he faced in the sixth inning.

Austin and Lucas Duda tallied two hits apiece for Minnesota. Twins outfield prospect LaMonte Wade broke open the game in the ninth inning, hammering a bases-loaded triple to right field.
