Devils GM: Larsson has 'only scratched the surface' on potential

New Jersey Devils general manager Ray Shero didn't mince words when discussing what he believes to be an extremely high ceiling for defenseman Adam Larsson.

"I think he’s only scratched the surface of the kind of player he's going to be," Shero told the Bergen Record of Larsson, who was signed to a six-year, $25 million contract on Saturday. "There's a reason he was drafted when he was. He's got a lot of experience already. He's played a lot of ice time on the (penalty kill) and 5-on-5. He hasn’t had the chance to play a lot on the power play, yet."

Larsson was selected with the fourth overall pick of the 2011 draft, two spots behind Tampa Bay defenseman Victor Hedman. The Devils avoided a salary arbitration hearing scheduled for Wednesday by signing the talented Swede.

The 22-year-old Larsson recorded career highs in goals (three), assists (21), points (24), penalty minutes (34) and blocks (120) in 64 games last season.
