ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) The Washington Capitals have signed winger Alex Chiasson to a $660,000, one-year contract.

General manager Brian MacLellan announced the deal Wednesday, the day before the Capitals open the regular season in Ottawa.

The 27-year-old Chiasson made the team on a training camp tryout after he was not rendered a contract offer by the Calgary Flames last season. He's expected to start the season on the third line with Brett Connolly and Lars Eller.

In 320 NHL games with the Dallas Stars, Ottawa Senators and Flames, Chiasson has 50 goals and 56 assists for 106 points.
