Texans cut LB Tarpinian as part of moves to reach 75-man limit

Linebacker Jeff Tarpinian, who spent most of the last two seasons as a member of the Houston Texans, was among the players released Tuesday as the team got down to the NFL-mandated 75-player limit. The moves were reported by the Houston Chronicle.

Tarpinian, who signed an extension with the team in the offseason, led the Texans in special-teams tackles last season with 12. In all he appeared in 22 games for the team, including three starts, after signing in Oct. 2013.

Houston also released punter Will Johnson, while safety Terrance Parks and tight end Anthony Denham were waived injured. If no other team claims Parks or Denham they will revert to injured reserve with the Texans.

Offensive tackle David Quessenberry, who missed all of last season after being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma was placed on the non-football illness list. Quessenbery announced in February his cancer is in remission.

With the roster now at 75, the team must get down to the final 53-man limit on Saturday.
