Dolphins lose defensive end Wake to Achilles injury

Published Oct. 29, 2015 11:08 p.m. ET

The Miami Dolphins could be without their most dangerous pass rusher for an indefinite amount of time.

Defensive end Cameron Wake needed to be helped off the field after sustaining an Achilles tendon injury late in the third quarter of Thursday night's 36-7 loss at New England, the team announced. Coach Dan Campbell didn't have an update on the extent of the injury, but it didn't look good.

Wake, a four-time Pro Bowler who leads his team with six sacks in seven games, went down to the turf after chasing Tom Brady in the third quarter. He stayed down for a couple minutes and was helped off the field. Wake first went to the trainer's table before leaving on a cart.

The Dolphins also lost former first-round pick offensive tackle Ja'Wuan James to an injury in the first half.
