LSU names Brandon Harris as their starting QB

The long offseason competition is over, as LSU names sophomore Brandon Harris their starting quarterback. Les Miles announced the decision during his Monday press conference following the team's Monday practice. 

“Brandon Harris, he’s throwing the ball more accurately,” Miles said. “He’s done everything we’ve asked him to do.”

Junior Anthony Jennings will likely see the field in the opener against McNeese State according to Miles, as his evaluation continues for the team. Harris started one game last season, a 41-7 loss at Auburn and was rarely seen on the field again for the Tigers after that performance. 

“[Harris is] still a guy that really probably throws the ball as well as anybody we’ve been around, but he needs to make sure that he’s doing all of the things that make the other 10 guys more capable,” Miles recently said to ESPN. “And [my] opinion is that he’s learning and he’s working to do that and that’s just what we need from him. Anthony Jennings on the other hand is probably a little bit further ahead there and maybe not as natural a thrower.”

With a trip to Starkville looming in week two, it's imperative the Tigers name the right quarterback as the starter and get him some confidence heading into the first conference game of the season. With Harris, Miles is betting on talent over experience. Will it pay off?
